How to Measure Roofing AI Visibility: A Repeatable Log

There's no universal AI ranking. A consistent log of the same questions over time gives you something you can actually track.

By the Lead Engine Sales and Marketing team · Updated

Quick answer

Measure roofing AI visibility by choosing groups of realistic buyer questions, asking them repeatedly under stable conditions across the AI products you care about, and logging the date, product, location context and outcome: mentioned, cited, recommended, or no AI answer shown. Report results as sample rates with the denominator stated. Track AI referral visits separately and follow them through to qualified inquiries, estimates and jobs, accepting that not all AI influence is measurable.

Procedure

A reusable reporting procedure

  1. Choose question groups. For example: service questions (metal roof installation), area questions (roofers in a town you serve), and company questions (your name plus reviews or services). 3–6 questions per group.
  2. Hold context stable. Same wording, same products, same location setting, logged out where possible. Note any change.
  3. Repeat observations. Ask each question several times per review period, on different days.
  4. Log each observation. Date, product, location, question, outcome, linked URL, competitors named.
  5. Classify the outcome. Mentioned, cited, recommended, not present, or no AI answer shown.
  6. Calculate rates. Divide by the number of observations where an AI answer appeared, and state that number.

Sample

A small sample log and how to read it

Hypothetical example for illustration only. It is not client data, a forecast or a typical result.

Six observations, five with an AI answer. Mention rate: 3 of 5. Citation rate: 2 of 5. Recommendation rate: 1 of 5. The row with no AI answer is excluded from the denominator but reported separately.

A sample this small says very little. Rates shift with phrasing, product updates and location. Use them to spot direction over several periods, not as a score.

Business outcomes

Connecting AI referrals to inquiries and jobs

  • Set up AI products as a referral source group in analytics.
  • Ask new callers how they found you and record it in the CRM.
  • Follow AI referral visits to qualified inquiries, then estimates and jobs, as a cohort.
  • Accept that many people read an AI answer and then search your name or call directly; that influence often shows up as branded or direct traffic and can't be fully separated.

Bing

Bing's cited-page reporting

Bing Webmaster Tools has introduced AI performance reporting (in preview at the time of writing) that shows how often your pages are cited in Bing's AI experiences. It's useful for that ecosystem, but it isn't a universal AI rank and doesn't describe ChatGPT, Google or other products.
