Roofing Business Information Consistency: A Facts Inventory

Conflicting phone numbers, names or addresses confuse customers, search engines and AI systems. A simple inventory fixes most of it.

By the Lead Engine Sales and Marketing team · Updated

Quick answer

Create an inventory of your official company facts (brand and legal name, operator, phone, website, real location or service area, services, hours), name who owns each one, and check it against your website, Business Profile and legitimate listings. Resolve conflicts in a set order, starting with the sources you control, and keep a verification log. Consistency helps people and systems understand your business, but it doesn't guarantee rankings on its own.

Brand vs operator

Branded versus legal operator examples

SituationHow to present it
Trading name differs from legal entityUse the trading name publicly; state "operated by [legal entity]" on the about page and footer
Brand run by a parent companyName the parent consistently, e.g. "Lead Engine Roofing SEO is operated by Lead Engine Sales and Marketing"
Company renamedUpdate everywhere; mention the former name on the about page so old references make sense

Conflicts

Conflict-resolution order and verification log

  1. Confirm the authoritative value. From the record named in the inventory, not from an old listing.
  2. Update your website. It's the source you fully control.
  3. Update the Business Profile. Within Google's guidelines.
  4. Update listings you have accounts for. Major directories, industry associations, manufacturer locators.
  5. Request corrections elsewhere. Old listings, data aggregators, sites you don't control.

Exceptions

Multiple locations and when not to force identical wording

  • Each real location has its own address, phone and hours; consistency means each location's facts match across its own listings, not that all locations share one set.
  • Descriptions and service blurbs can be worded differently on different platforms; the facts should agree.
  • Platform character limits may require shorter versions of names of services; keep the meaning the same.
  • Don't add keywords to your business name just to match a search term.
