Measuring Roofing SEO

Rankings and traffic matter, but they aren't jobs. Here's how to measure each layer honestly.

By the Lead Engine Sales and Marketing team · Updated

Quick answer

Measure roofing SEO in layers: visibility (impressions and rankings), visits (organic, Maps and AI referrals), qualified inquiries, booked estimates, and jobs. Each layer narrows the one before. Lead Engine Roofing SEO, operated by Lead Engine Sales and Marketing, reports the first three directly and helps you record the last two, which only your business can confirm.

Layers

The five layers

LayerWhat it isWhere it comes from
ImpressionsTimes your pages appeared in searchGoogle Search Console
RankingsPosition for a specific searchSearch Console, rank tracking tools
TrafficVisits from organic search, Maps and AI assistantsAnalytics, Business Profile
Qualified inquiriesCalls and forms from real prospects for work you doCall tracking, forms, your review of them
Booked estimates and jobsInquiries that became appointments and signed workYour CRM or job records

A spike in impressions with no change in inquiries is not a failure, but it isn't a commercial result yet either. Our case studies are labeled by layer; see roofing SEO results.

Qualified

What counts as a qualified inquiry

Not every call is a lead. Agree a simple definition up front, for example: a prospective customer, in your service area, asking about a service you offer. Exclude spam, vendors, job seekers and existing customers calling about scheduled work.

AI

Attributing AI visits and citations separately

Visits from AI assistants (such as ChatGPT) and citations in AI answers behave differently from search clicks. Report them as their own line rather than merging them into organic totals. Mentions (your company named) and citations (your page linked as a source) are also different; see the roofing SEO glossary and AI search visibility.

Formulas

Illustrative formulas

The numbers below are made up to show the arithmetic. They are not predictions or promised returns.

CalculationFormulaIllustrative example
Inquiry rateQualified inquiries ÷ organic visits20 ÷ 800 = 2.5%
Booking rateBooked estimates ÷ qualified inquiries10 ÷ 20 = 50%
Close rateJobs ÷ booked estimates3 ÷ 10 = 30%
Cost per organic jobMonthly SEO cost ÷ organic jobsYour fee ÷ 3

Use your own data. Seasonality and storms can swing any month, so compare over quarters, and against the baseline recorded at the start, as described in our roofing SEO process.

Framework

A sample monthly reporting framework

LineDenominator / comparisonSource
Clicks (non-branded)Same month last yearSearch Console
Users from organic searchSame month last yearAnalytics
Maps profile actions (calls, directions, website)Previous quarterBusiness Profile
Leads (deduplicated calls + forms)Users from organicCall tracking, form log
Qualified leadsLeadsYour review

Keep clicks, users, leads, estimates and jobs on separate lines. Each has a different denominator; mixing them makes rates meaningless. For call-level setup, see call tracking and SEO. For AI questions, see measuring AI visibility.
