Switching Roofing SEO Companies

A practical checklist so you don't lose rankings, data or access when you change providers.

By the Lead Engine Sales and Marketing team · Updated

Quick answer

Before switching roofing SEO companies, confirm you own and can access your domain, website, Google Business Profile, analytics and Search Console; export a baseline; list the URLs that bring traffic; and plan redirects for anything that will change. This checklist from Lead Engine Roofing SEO, operated by Lead Engine Sales and Marketing, is practical guidance, not legal advice; check your contract for terms.

Step 1

Ownership and access

AssetWhat to confirm
Domain nameRegistered in your company's name; you have the registrar login
Website hosting and CMSAdmin access in your name, not only the agency's
Google Business ProfileYou are the primary owner
Google AnalyticsYou have administrator access
Google Search ConsoleYou are a verified owner
Call tracking numbersWho owns the numbers, and whether they can be ported
Content and photosYou can keep and reuse pages and images created for you

Step 2

Export a baseline

  • Last 12–16 months of Search Console performance (queries and pages)
  • Analytics traffic by channel and landing page
  • Business Profile performance (calls, website clicks, directions)
  • Current rankings for your priority services and areas, if available
  • Backlink and referring-domain counts from any tool you use

Without a baseline, the next provider can't show what changed. We record one at the start of every engagement; see our process.

Step 3

Retain valuable URLs

Use the Search Console export to list pages that bring impressions, clicks or links. Keep those URLs where possible. If a page must move or merge, redirect it permanently (301) to the closest matching page, not the homepage.

Step 4

Migration and redirect checks

  • Map every old URL to a new one before launch
  • Test redirects after launch, checking for chains and loops
  • Confirm no accidental noindex or robots.txt block on the new site
  • Resubmit the sitemap in Search Console
  • Watch indexing and traffic closely for the following weeks

These checks are part of a roofing SEO audit.

Step 5

Provider handover

Ask the outgoing provider for a list of work done, any links or listings they built (with logins where applicable), and any tracking or scripts installed on your site. Keep the conversation factual. Then compare candidates using how to choose a roofing SEO company.
